A long time ago there was a New Yorker James Thurber drawing that depicted a weary looking guy coming home. He’s opening the door into a large woman figure, probably his Wife, maybe Mom. At any rate, anyone, of any age, that I have ever mentioned this to has known what I am talking about. The idea has become iconic. So, “Why” I said, “not a lunchroom?”

That’s what I was thinking about over the four or five years that this piece was developing. It has been in the kiln at least four times and shrunk a little each time. In the last firing, the skin (the glaze) withered and wrinkled in a terrific way.
